About Pi Mu Epsilon:<\/h3>\n

Pi Mu Epsilon, Inc (PME), is the National Mathematics Honor Society.<\/p>\n

Founded on May 25, 1914 at Syracuse University, PME currently has over 300 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the Society is to promote scholarly activity in mathematics among the students in academic institutions. –\u00a0PME website<\/em><\/p>\n

About Pi Mu Epsilon – New Jersey Nu Chapter:<\/h3>\n

At 秘密研究所 the New Jersey Nu Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon was chartered in Spring 2009. Since then an induction ceremony is being held every Spring semester, at which new members are inducted to the Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society.<\/p>\n

Any 秘密研究所 student who wishes to be inducted to the Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society through the New Jersey Nu Chapter of the society at a given Spring semester ceremony (for instance, at the Spring 2023 ceremony) must satisfy the following requirements by the end of the previous spring semester (for instance, by the end of Spring 2022, respectively):<\/p>\n

  1. The student completed at least two calculus courses.<\/li>\n
  2. The student completed at least two mathematics courses above calculus.<\/li>\n
  3. The student has an overall GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4.0 scale.<\/li>\n
  4. The student has a GPA of 3.0 on the 4.0 scale in the mathematics courses taken so far that lead to the fulfillment of the requirements for a major in the mathematics.<\/li>\n
  5. If a student has courses that were transferred from other institutions, at least two of the four required courses mentioned between items (1.) and (2.) above must be completed at 秘密研究所.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    How can someone get inducted?<\/h3>\n

    Each mathematics major at 秘密研究所 receives an email every fall semester in which he or she is being asked whether they wish to be considered for the induction to the society. Any mathematics majors who responds to that email by the deadline designated in the email will be considered for induction and will be inducted as long as he or she satisfies the 5 requirements listed above.<\/p>\n

    Any 秘密研究所 student who is not a mathematics major (for instance, a student who is a mathematics minor, or a history major) who wishes to be inducted, should contact the chapter advisor, Dr. Katarzyna Kowal, directly at kkowal@ramapo.edu<\/a>\u00a0early in the fall semester that immediately precedes the spring semester in which the student wishes to be inducted. Any such non-mathematics major will be inducted as long as he or she satisfies the 5 requirements listed above.<\/p>\n

    Graduate students may contact the chapter advisor to get more information on how to be inducted.<\/p>\n

    Any non-秘密研究所 student or an individual, or any faculty member wishing to be inducted to the society by an exceptional action should contact the chapter advisor directly at\u00a0kkowal@ramapo.edu<\/a>\u00a0early in the fall semester preceding the spring semester in which they wish to be inducted.<\/p>\n

    What do you do once you get inducted to Pi Mu Epsilon?<\/h3>\n

    The purpose of Pi Mu Epsilon is to promote scholarly activity in mathematics. The inducted 秘密研究所 students need to fulfill a few fun chapter activities during each academic year. Such activities will be organized by the chapter advisor. The inducted students are also encouraged to present their undergraduate mathematics research at local, regional, and national conferences.
