Two minors and an upcoming certificate program in genetic genealogy are connected to the Law and Society major. The Crime and Justice Studies minor is jointly organized with the Sociology<\/a> major, while the Human Rights and Genocide Studies minor is a self-standing minor, drawing faculty from across the College and closely collaborating with the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Human Rights and Genocide Studies minor<\/a><\/p>\n

The Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) Center works to secure justice through the ethical and proficient use of investigative genetic genealogy. The IGG Center uses IGG to resolve cases involving violent crime, unidentified human remains, and wrongful convictions. Center faculty and staff t<\/span>rain students to become proficient and ethical IGG practitioners, undertake r<\/span>esearch in the field of IGG, and find ways to expand its reach to further secure justice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center<\/a><\/p>\n

Ramapo students, as well as students from other New Jersey and national colleges and universities, can publish in The Ramapo Journal of Law and Society. The Journal is dedicated to undergraduate sociolegal scholarship, and has published both longer papers (such as capstone theses), and shorter pieces.<\/p>\n

The Law and Society program organizes and co-sponsors speaker events for the campus community on a regular basis. Some of our most prominent speakers in the past have included Reed Brody (human rights activist also known as the “Dictator Hunter”), Mark Denbeaux (attorney and law professor with expertise on the Guantanamo Bay detention camp and its operations), Sandy Santana (Children’s Rights), Irena Grudzinska Gross (Princeton University), attorneys from the Bronx Defenders office, Her Excellency Ambassador Thilmeeza Hussain (Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
