The exhibition of paintings by Marcial Camilo Ayala features dream-like landscapes, village scenes, and imagery drawn from other sources. The artist is from the Guerrero region of Mexico, where he is the best-known practitioner of amate painting, a technique in which artists paint on a bark surface. His connection with УиУмбаОПЫљ dates back to the late Ramapo donor Selden Rodman’s writings which introduced his work to a US audience. The Ramapo exhibition consists of selections from the Thompson Collection at УиУмбаОПЫљ combined with private collection loans. The Thompson Collection was given to УиУмбаОПЫљ by noted folk art collectors Maurice and Linda Thompson of Connecticut. A significant number of other works on view are from the private collection of economics professor and New York Times columnist Dr. Tyler Cowen of Virginia. Cowen is the author of the book “Markets and Cultural Voices” which evaluates several Mexican amate artists in the context of globalization. In late 2009, УиУмбаОПЫљ received a valuable gift of eight early paintings by the artist from collector Larry Kent in California. Several of these important works will be included in the exhibition. Marcial Camilo Ayala’s paintings are in the collections of numerous major museums including the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the Smithsonian. The National Museum of the American Indian on the Mall in Washington, D.C. has a permanent display of his works. Concurrently, works by related Mexican artists will be presented in two other exhibitions on the УиУмбаОПЫљ campus: the Potter Library Galleries and the Selden Rodman Gallery of Popular Arts in B Wing. A preview reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, and a talk by Dr. Tyler Cowen is scheduled for 6 p.m. This program is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. The Pascal Gallery is located in the Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts at УиУмбаОПЫљ. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 1 to 5 p.m., and Wednesday, 1 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 201-684-7147 # # # # For media inquiries, contact Anna Farneski, assistant vice president, Marketing and Communications, 201.684.6844. ./VWXkl€КЪопр“ ” (š›œї№х№зхЮх№ЩФРЙРЩРЩРБЊЃ hWnhъwЙ h‡D hъwЙhъwЙB*ph hБGšhъwЙhъwЙ hъwЙ5 hъwЙ6h‹nhъwЙ0Jjh‹nhъwЙUjh‹nhъwЙU h‹nhъwЙh‹nhъwЙ5mn€ЙКbc J K 8 9 ‰67'(š›œњњњђњ№№№№№№№№№№№№№№№№№ђђшђ№dhgdъwЙ$a$gdъwЙgdъwЙœў 1hАа/ Ар=!А"А# $ %АЇDаЩъyљКЮŒ‚ЊKЉ рЩъyљКЮŒ‚ЊKЉ 6mailto:afarnesk@ramapo.eduЅ@@ёџ@ NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH H@H c Heading 1$@&5OJPJQJaJDA@ђџЁD Default Paragraph FontRi@ѓџГR Table Normalі4ж l4жaі (k@єџС(No List4U`Ђё4 ъwЙ Hyperlink >*phџœ џџџџ џџ z™ џџ z™7 œ чmn€ЙКbcJK89 ‰6 7 ' ( š › ž ˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€`С˜0€€x˜0€€˜@0€ ˜@0€ ˜@0€ ˜0€€mn9 ' ( š › ž Z@ 0@(™АџП€Z@ 0@(™АџП€@00` —lL@00@00@00` —lL@00@000@00€@00` —œ œ œ .Wkœ Xџ„№8№@ёџџџ€€€ї№’№№0№( № №№B №S №ПЫџ ?№$,€‡Ъбв肉ŠJO &ž ,-€Иž :nž qџОџ@€€€0–м?€€ œ @џџUnknownџџџџџџџџџџџџGTimes New Roman5€Symbol3 Arial3Times"qˆ№аhЂjкFkкFJLкІˆРœ/ !№ ДД24dО Ы К3ƒq№HX №џ?фџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџWnџџNOV 09 GALLERY EXHIBITIONS MigrationRamapo Collegeўџ р…ŸђљOhЋ‘+'Гй0 ˜ Фаф№ќ $0 P \ h t€ˆ˜'NOV 09 GALLERY EXHIBITIONS MigrationNormalУиУмбаОПЫљ4Microsoft Word 11.5.3@@Dxм$IЪ@ќ4LЪ@˜ЕЦLЪˆРўџ еЭеœ.“—+,љЎDеЭеœ.“—+,љЎ\ hp˜ Ј АИРШ а ї'УиУмбаОПЫљ of NJО NOV 09 GALLERY EXHIBITIONS Titleœ@ПЧ?Ggƒ _PID_HLINKS_AdHocReviewCycleID_EmailSubject _AuthorEmail_AuthorEmailDisplayName'Ap@umailto:afarnesk@ramapo.eduСо›ЂAyala exhibit releaseafarnesk@ramapo.eduAnna Farneski ўџџџўџџџўџџџ !"#$ўџџџ&'()*+,ўџџџ§џџџ/ўџџџўџџџўџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџRoot Entryџџџџџџџџ РF€X§KЪ1€Data џџџџџџџџџџџџ 1TableџџџџWordDocumentџџџџ"SummaryInformation(џџџџџџџџџџџџDocumentSummaryInformation8џџџџџџџџ%CompObjџџџџџџџџџџџџXџџџџџџџџџџџџўџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџўџџџџџ РFMicrosoft Word DocumentўџџџNB6WWord.Document.8
