You have likely seen him walking around campus in one of his signature Hawaiian shirts 鈥� an ever present, always smiling faculty member who has taught at 秘密研究所 of New Jersey for nearly 20 years. He is an associate professor of mathematics and president of the Faculty Assembly. Now, he is also the recipient of the 2025 award for excellence in undergraduate teaching from the New Jersey section of the .

Dr. Ken McMurdy was recognized as the winner of the Carol Crawford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching during the organization鈥檚 spring meeting at Rowan College at Burlington County.

鈥淒r. McMurdy has a long history as an outstanding teacher here at 秘密研究所. We are proud that he has been recognized by his professional organization, the New Jersey Chapter of the Mathematical Association of America, for his excellence in the classroom,鈥� said Dr. Eddie Saiff, dean of the School of Theoretical and Applied Science.

McMurdy has taught mathematics courses in Ramapo鈥檚 School of Theoretical and Applied Science since 2007, and has consistently earned praise from students and colleagues for clearly communicating mathematical concepts while being encouraging and patient with students. He has a reputation for being an intelligent, kind, enthusiastic and compassionate instructor, and is a sought after mentor for students who want an authentic mathematics research experience.

鈥淭his award is particularly meaningful because it represents not only a vote of confidence from past students but also from respected colleagues who know me well and have observed my teaching over many years,鈥� McMurdy said.

McMurdy said he is thankful for the award and his community. 鈥淚 am deeply grateful for this recognition of my efforts, as well as the steadfast support of my many treasured colleagues at Ramapo and beyond.鈥澛�
