Career Center Coaching Gets Roadrunner Hired 鈥榦n the Spot鈥

Ocia Milo 鈥25 always has a goal set for herself.

So once she was confident she would reach her goal of graduating with honors from 秘密研究所 of New Jersey, she set her next goal: securing a job before receiving her official college diploma.

The management major from Newark, NJ achieved that one too. During a job interview with Enterprise Mobility, she was offered a position as a sales management trainee 鈥渙n the spot,鈥 she said.

鈥淚 had perfected everything I needed to say, and I guess I made a good impression,鈥 she said.

Milo 鈥 who said she was once nervous about answering behavioral questions during interviews 鈥 credits the staff of the Cahill Career Development Center on Ramapo鈥檚 Mahwah campus with helping her land the job. They worked with her to improve her interviewing skills and encouraged her to network and make connections, she said.

鈥淗onestly, it just takes some practice,鈥 she said of interviewing and pitching oneself to potential employers.

In her current position, Milo is learning the ins and outs of managing a branch of the rental car business.

According to Enterprise, management trainees receive guidance, mentoring and support and are 鈥渆ntrusted to serve as both the face of Enterprise to customers and partners and the behind-the-scenes operational expert.鈥 The structured program allows trainees to master the knowledge and skills they need to eventually run their own branch, cultivate new business and develop a team, according to Enterprise.

Milo likes that she is not spending her days at a desk, but is instead interacting with clients, even driving to get cars when customers need them and picking up patrons at auto body shops when they get into accidents.

鈥淚t is always, always moving,鈥 she said.

Milo ’25 (second from right) celebrates at commencement with her best friend, Nikita Hanover 鈥25, and EOF staff who supported them.

Milo is used to being busy. During her time at Ramapo, she was treasurer of the Students of Caribbean Ancestry and a member of Tri-Alpha, a national honor society for first-generation college students. Milo also worked 鈥渁ll throughout college,鈥 she said. She was a supplemental instructor for the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) summer program, a retail associate at the J. Jill clothing store in Paramus, and a peer career coordinator for the Cahill Career Development Center, where she assisted fellow students in navigating their career paths. She also held internships in marketing and human resources.

Milo said her business professors were integral in preparing her for the workforce. 鈥淢y professors were really great,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 actually why I really loved Ramapo. Because it was smaller, you weren鈥檛 just a number. People knew you and they helped you, which I really loved.鈥

Like always, the ambitious Milo now has her sights set on a new goal: passing exams given by Enterprise to earn a promotion.

鈥淢y goal is to learn everything, learn everything fast, and then when it’s time to take those exams, I would be able to pass to get a promotion,鈥 she said.
