The library considers the four Fair Use factors listed below when placing items on reserve:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;<\/li>\n<li>the nature of the copyrighted work;<\/li>\n<li>the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole;<\/li>\n<li>the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyright work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Instructors are responsible for obtaining permission of the copyright holder for materials that exceed fair use.<\/p>\n<p>We also consider the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arl.org\/focus-areas\/copyright-ip\/fair-use\/code-of-best-practices#.Vtcuf30rLcs\" target=\"_blank\">Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Academic and Research Libraries<\/a>, when placing materials on reserve.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Copyright and Course Reserves The library adheres to US Copyright Law (Title 17 of the US Code).
