This includes fostering an understanding of the causes and consequences of crime, criminal justice policy, and the role of law in redressing or reinforcing inequality and social problems with criminogenic ramifications.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span>Outcomes for the Minor<\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<p><strong>Goal 1.<\/strong> Students become familiar with conceptual foundations for examining crime and societal responses to crime.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1.1: Students will demonstrate understanding of sociological theoretical explanations for crime and society\u2019s responses to crime\u00a0 and be able to contrast how these explanations differ from individualistic explanations, including classical,<br \/>\npsychological, and biological explanations.<\/li>\n<li>1.2: Students will demonstrate understanding of legal theories and narratives that<br \/>\nexplain crime and society\u2019s responses to crime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Goal 2.<\/strong>\u00a0Students will become familiar with the centrality of social categories in the<br \/>\ncontext of criminal justice.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2.1: Students will demonstrate how categories such as race, ethnicity, gender, social class\/status, religion, age, and immigration status affect processes and outcomes within the criminal justice system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Goal 3.<\/strong>\u00a0Students will become familiar with the creation and reproduction of<br \/>\nideologies and institutions within the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3.1: Students will identify specific institutional policies and practices within the criminal justice system and explain how such policies and practices are created and reproduced by both ideology and social, economic, and political interests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span> Requirements of the Crime and Justice Studies Minor<\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<ol>\n<li>The Crime and Justice Studies Minor will consist of 5 courses.<\/li>\n<li>Courses fulfilling the requirements for the primary or second major may count towards the requirements of the minor, but may not exceed one-half of the credits required in the minor.
