{"id":1393,"date":"2013-07-24T07:03:15","date_gmt":"2013-07-24T11:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/catalog-2013-2014\/sshs\/substanceabuse\/"},"modified":"2023-11-06T09:50:14","modified_gmt":"2023-11-06T14:50:14","slug":"substanceusedisorders","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/catalog-2023-2024\/sshs\/substanceusedisorders\/","title":{"rendered":"Substance Use Disorders"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Website: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/sshs\/\"> School of Social Science and Human Services<\/a><\/h4>\n<div class=\"facultyTable\"><div class=\"row colSet\"><br \/>\n<div class=\"sColumn col-sm-12 col-md-12 \"><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"convenerListing\">Convener:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/sshs\/faculty\/stephanie-elias-sarabia\/\">Stephanie Sarabia<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Current as of June 2023<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span>About the Minor <\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<p>秘密研究所 offers a minor in Substance Use Disorders that is primarily designed for students who are interested in counseling people substance use disorders.<\/p>\n<p>Students must complete an introductory course in either psychology or social work before taking other courses required for the minor.<\/p>\n<p>The courses in the minor will include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Introduction to Substance Use Disorders\u00a0(An introductory course that must be taken\u00a0prior to core courses).<\/li>\n<li>Case Management\u00a0and the Recovery Ecosystem<\/li>\n<li>Counseling for Substance Use Disorders I<\/li>\n<li>Counseling for Substance Use Disorders II<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The courses are repeated each year so that they can be taken in as few as three semesters.<\/p>\n<p>The minor in Substance Use Disorders is designed to fulfill all of the academic requirements applicable towards state certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">The minor is of particular interest to students majoring in the helping professions such as psychology and social work. Some courses in the minor also count towards satisfying major requirements in psychology and social work. However, the minor is open to all interested students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The faculty teaching in this program are all professionals in the field of substance use disorder counseling. In addition to full-time faculty and staff at 秘密研究所, experts from the community teach in the program on an adjunct basis. This provides students with the best combination: excellent teachers who have years of direct, professional experience in the field.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\"><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span>Outcomes for the Minor<\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<p><b>Goal:\u00a0\u00a0Students will understand the complexity of substance use, prevention, and recovery.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Outcome 1:\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will be able to demonstrate competence in content knowledge reflecting the individualized nature of substance use, be able to integrate, think critically, and apply that knowledge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rubric components:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Individualized nature of substance use<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Person-centered approach<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Destigmatizing language and experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Interplay of multiple factors including risk and protective<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Interdisciplinary approach<\/li>\n<li>Ecosystem of recovery<\/li>\n<li>Integration of multiple systems<\/li>\n<li>Impact of structural racism and other structural barriers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span>Requirements of the Minor <\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<ol>\n<li>Courses fulfilling the requirements for the primary or second major may count towards the requirements of the minor, but may not exceed one-half of the credits required in the minor.
