Gerontology is the interdisciplinary study of the social, physical, and cultural dimensions of aging. \u00a0Career options for gerontology students are expanding rapidly and include administrative work in government agencies on aging, in hospitals and nursing homes, in the law, and in recreational programs for older people. \u00a0Direct service provision may include home health care workers, social workers, psychologists, and hospital workers. \u00a0In addition, there are burgeoning business opportunities geared toward the older segment of the population in all areas of society. \u00a0The gerontology minor program for matriculated students also welcomes service workers presently working with the aging population, in agencies or institutions, to take courses in gerontology.<\/span><\/p>\n Gerontologists are concerned with creating environments for successful aging and with ensuring the maintenance of quality life experiences for the aging in our population. \u00a0Increasing numbers of Americans are living longer, resulting in a need for people trained in understanding the complex interactions between aging and society.<\/span><\/p>\n The gerontology program at 秘密研究所 is designed to introduce students to the various aspects of aging: \u00a0biology, physiology, psychology, sociology, and issues of death and dying.\u00a0 In addition, we require gerontology students to do fieldwork with the aged or in any agency devoted to issues of aging to enable hands-on learning.\u00a0 The study of gerontology is highly recommended for students majoring in social work, psychology, sociology, nursing, or business administration and will enhance the academic and future professional journeys of students of all majors.<\/p>\n The gerontology faculty come from a variety of disciplines within the college, and, collectively has tremendous experience in the field.\u00a0 Some of their areas of expertise include:<\/span><\/p>\n Goal 1<\/strong>: Gerontology students in will understand issues related to aging.<\/p>\n Outcome 1<\/strong>: Students will be able to identify the biological, psychological, and sociological changes associated with the aging process.<\/p>\n Outcome 2:<\/strong> \u00a0Students will be able to recognize issues of aging that affect older adults and their families.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n School of Social Science and Human Services Website<\/a> Website: School of Social Science and Human Services<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":1381,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-1384","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"\n\n
