Banned within a month of its publishing in 1759, Voltaire鈥檚 satire, Candide, exposes the futility of war, the folly of utopian 鈥減ositivity,鈥� and the often corrupt tyranny of the church and the government. In this original adaptation performed in masks with live music, Commedia dell鈥檃rte meets the Enlightenment inviting laughter and reflection on the meaning of life and the pursuit of happiness.
